About the role
Responsibilities:
Credit Assessment & Underwriting:
Review and analyse loan applications from individuals and businesses. Assess borrower creditworthiness using financial statements, bank statements, credit reports and business performance data. Conduct risk scoring and recommend approval, decline, or loan restructuring. Prepare credit memos and risk reports for management decisions.
Financial Analysis:
Analyse income, cash flow, debt ratios and repayment capacity. Evaluate business models, industry risks, and economic trends. Perform stress testing and scenario analysis.
Portfolio Risk Monitoring:
Monitor existing loan portfolio for early warning signs. Track loan performance and repayment behaviour. Identify high-risk accounts and recommend mitigation actions. Support loan restructuring and recovery strategies.
Policy & Compliance:
Ensure lending decisions comply with company credit policy. Help develop and update credit risk frameworks and procedures. Maintain proper documentation and audit trail for all credit files. Support regulatory and internal audit requirements.
Reporting:
Prepare weekly/monthly credit risk reports. Provide portfolio health dashboards and insights. Present findings and recommendations to management.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, banking, or a related field. Professional certifications in credit risk management are a plus 2–5 years of experience in lending, microfinance / Fintech / Investment firms, Credit analysis or risk management Financial statement analysis Credit risk modelling Excel / Google Sheets (advanced) Knowledge of lending lifecycle Understanding of Nigerian credit environment & regulations
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills High attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication Ethical judgement and integrity Ability to make data-driven decisions
Nice-to-Have:
Experience in SME lending or consumer lending Experience with credit scoring tools or loan management software
